Thompson Rises In The Poles Despite Being An Undeclared Candidate
Fred Thompson has yet to make it official that he will make a run for the presidency. However a recent poll by Rasmussen Reports shows him in a dead heat with former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani.
That poll gives a slight lead for Thompson at 27% to Giulianis' 26%. That is the first time this year that any name other than Giuliani's has been at the top of that poll. The others in the republican race are well below these numbers.
Most experts believe once Thompson jumps into the fray those numbers will jump sharply and then are likely to fall some as scrutiny of the former Tennessee Senator focuses more on his policies and past performance. The attacks, they say, are sure to be fierce.
The internet is already full of pro and con speculation for Thompson. While some compare Thompson to former president Ronald Reagan, others, already disenchanted with the republican party, make statements like "why don't the republicans go ahead and nominate boss hog." Still others liken Thompson to none other than, Fred Thompson himself, with a style uniquely his own. This no doubt will be an interesting and very heated election.
Experts say the polls should rise after an official announcement is made, which most expect during the July 4th holiday. Supporters say even though there may be a dip in numbers weeks from now, they also believe those numbers will rise again and lead Thompson to a republican nomination for the White House.
